Whew! So I posted about Life Insurance “Dirty Little Secrets” for Consumers Revealed! soon to be published on Facebook. I got a tremendous response. If any of you guys show up here – THANK YOU! Then I had to get down to brass tacks. Once I uploaded to Draft2Digital, I needed to go to Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Kobo. Of course, being my first time through all of these, it was a learning experience to things loaded up right. Then they all needed time to look things over before they would go on presale.
Now one of the nice things about Draft2Digital (D2D) is they have this universal link – one link to everywhere my book is available. Sweet. It’s even better than that because I can pop in my own links for those books D2D isn’t distributing so it truly is a “universal” link. Sweet as honey. Another boost is they formatted my book into a bunch of versions so I could then upload it to the other distributers. And if that is not enough, they made sample versions available too! So far I’m lovin’ this D2D.
So, I’m trying like a madman to find a decent email service so I can build a list. I tried moosend. They were all right but I kept getting notice my “free trial” would be up in a month. Free trial? They were supposed to be “free forever” for a limited number of subscribers. Then I decided to add on another list for those wanting samples. I went to build another form. Okay, they’ve got templates. Great. It looked pretty good. Maybe I ought to have one for the first list of those who just want updates. Oh no. Now I gotta pay. Well shoot. Between the “free trial”, the limited template use and the initial problems I had with them (don’t ask), I was thinkin’ maybe I ought to look for some alternative. I tried a couple. One couldn’t get a “verify email” to me. The other was DOA when I tried to set up a welcome email. Oi. The second had a chat so I fired it up. Well the bot went to get someone. She appeared but never answered me. That was yesterday (Sunday). I got tired of trying to find ways to occupy myself and walked away. Let HER wait. Huh. Well this morning I got this email from some dude all Odie-like. So I went back and looked at the chat. Well before I could click off someone came on. Another chick. After verifying she wasn’t another bot, I asked about the issue. She informed me the techs only responded to paying customers, not slouches like me. Okay so I was ready to go but she offered to help. I again, told her what was going on – basically I filled out the email form for my welcome email and I couldn’t save it. The routine was looking for something else, but there wasn’t anything else. ALL the fields were filled. Well, she wanted to me to clear my cache. I hate it when they say that. It tells me they have no idea what they’re doing. I sighed heavily. I’m sure she heard that even though it was all a text chat. I told her never mind. I wasn’t their market and they were far too complex for my needs. Heck, all I want to do is send a few interested readers updates on my books. Maybe I’d send a link to a short story or something now and then. Anyway, I ended up with mailerlite. That was the one who couldn’t send a confirmation email to “approve” my account. I got a response from an inquiry I sent yesterday. The kid was very nice and helpful. I can’t blame him for not working Sundays. So far, so good. It’s not fancy but I’m not a fancy guy so there’s that.
Today I put up a post on fb announcing my book for preorder. Again the response was very good. THANKS AGAIN GUYS! (For those who don’t know – “guys” is unisex in Western New York where most of these guys are.) I haven’t dared to look at preorders yet but, most of these guys aren’t my market anyway. We’re all too old to take advantage of all the neat stuff I reveal about life insurance.
